Green Country Technology Center's "Talk Local @ The Lokal" was a huge winner last night at the Oklahoma Main Street 30th Annual State Awards Banquet. GCTC brought home the award for Best Community Education/Public Awareness Activity.
In the summer of 2017, Green Country's Business Development Department was looking for ways to assist local small business owners and create a regular, casual gathering event that would serve as a networking platform for Okmulgee County's entrepreneurial ecosystem. Small Business Development Specialist Margaret Hess, joined with Okmulgee Main Street, the Chamber of Commerce and together with new downtown coffee shop, The Lokal, a partnership was born. Every Wednesday morning, Talk Local @ The Lokal features local businesses sponsoring complementary coffee where attendees build relationships and learn more about small businesses and those who support them. Over the the past 23 months, Talk Local @ The Lokal has become the place where community members "kick start" their Wednesday mornings, right on Main Street.
Other winners at the event were OSUIT’s GOPO building for Best Sustainable Design Award & The City Of Okmulgee garnered Best Placemaking Project for the Outdoor Fitness Court.
In addition, Okmulgee’s own Rep. Scott Fetgatter gave a fantastic welcome for the evening.
